My family and I were lucky. Blessed actually. Our area was spared the brunt of the storm; whereas so many other areas were not. Referring to nature's occasional episodes of destruction, our governor said it best: "We have to get used to this new reality." No longer can we see our state as seemingly "invincible" but now vulnerable to the whims of nature.
And yet, true to our stubborn nature, New Yorkers are known to get back to the business of being "New Yorkers."
What is that exactly?
Well, after the emphathizing and venting are over, it means getting back to figuring out what to do next to survive. We know that people will listen to the story for but so long. The next thing becomes, "what do you intend to do about it."
And so we shoulder on. Knowing that in due time, we will fully regain our quick, no-nonsense stride.
However long that takes...
